The Metamorfosize Concert and Workshop series were intended to be a one-off thing, a 'last' opportunity to create just before I (Valencia) were going to leave the US and return to Indonesia. However, it continued to serve as a platform of collaboration and co-creation until today, and in that sense it 'accidentally' became an ongoing community that continues to grow & evolve.

Below you can check out who were involved in this historic moment where the Metamorfosize Project was born, and the beautiful things offered in the week leading up to the Concert and within the Concert itself :)

Duality (Masculine & Feminine)

A collaborative improvisational piece by Gemiah Kurzfeld (USA), Valencia Selestina (Indonesia, and Daniel Berkman (USA) that explores the dualistic polarities between the Maculine and the Feminine, and the union of the two.

Breathing in Transformation

A choreographed belly dance performance by Caridad Rivera (Cuba), Esmeralda "Esme" (Puerto Rico), and Pumpernicki (Germany) from Sisters of the Blooming Sun, about emerging out of the cocoon to become butterflies.

Merging Bodies

A visceral, emotional duet piece by Leonie Schramm (Germany) and Levi Kies (Germany) about human connection, breaking gender-based expectations, and the merging of individual identities into a connected whole.

Inside Bursting

An interdisciplinary collaboration between theatre artist Kerensa Dewantoro (Indonesia) and cabaret clown Rebecca Kenny a.k.a. Frieda Love (UK/Germany) that expressed hope for societal transformation using a combination of spoken word, visual arts, and magical surrealism.

Dear Butterfly

A poetry and dance collaboration by Nicole Lorenzo (USA), Hafeez Hassan (Singapore) and Francesca Harriman (Singapore), where the poem was a letter written by the cocoon to the butterfly.

Rock 'n Roll Topeng

An East-meets-West performance by Kerensa Dewantoro (Indonesia) that combines Balinese Topeng (mask) traditions with Western rock 'n roll music, in an attempt to express her own cultural identity and struggles as an Australian woman living in Indonesia.

Grapeful

A fun, lighthearted, multidisciplinary collaboration between samba dancer Farah Dawood (Singapore), belly dancer Pumpernicki (Germany), guitarist Glen Chau (Singapore), singer Chelsea Goh (Singapore), and violinist Oliver Levi (USA). This piece follows the metamorphoses of grapes into kombucha, wine, and lastly vinegar :)
